Grilling Cleaning Tips & Importance

If you are a fan of cooking many of your meals on the grill, than it is important to remember that you need to go through the process of grill cleaning on a regular basis. When you grill your food, a residue or buildup remains on the grate from the marinades as well as the meats and fishes that you have grilled. Have a look at these grilling cleaning tips:

Grill Cleaning Key Tips

Before you even decide to start grilling your steak, pork, chicken, or fish you need to remember the importance of prepping the grill. One way to keep your meats from sticking to the grill is by spraying it with a grill spray; better yet, rub or spray your grill with olive oil. The olive oil will serve double duty. It will help keep you meat from sticking to the grill as well as help with the grill cleaning process. After you have cooked your meat on the grill, the first step in the grill cleaning process is to remove the larger pieces of meat or marinades stuck to the grill.  The next step in the process is to coat the grate with olive oil. Now you can scrub your grate with a scrub brush and get off all the remnants to the meal you just cooked. Your last step is to rinse your grill with water and once again, you have a nice clean grill.

Grill Cleaning Alternatives

Alternative grill cleaning options that people use involve using a sink or tub filled with hot soapy water or self-cleaning ovens. If you prefer the soaking method, prepare a tub large enough to fit your grate into it with hot soapy water. Let the grate soak in the bath while you scrub down the hood and sides of your grill. Along with your grate, the hood and heating elements can also develop residue to remove. After you have cleaned the grill completely, scrub the grate that you had soaking with a scrub brush. Rinse it off and place it back on the grill.

The self-cleaning oven option is a simple one. Place the grate from your barbeque onto the oven racks. Turn on the self-cleaning feature and let the oven do the work for you. Not only will the oven burn off all the food remnants on your grate but also it will clean your oven racks at the same time.

Regardless of the method used for grill cleaning, it is essential that you keep your grill clean to prevent transference of one marinade to another as well as ensure healthy grilling.

Grilled Beef with Broccoli and Cashews

This great Asian recipe of grilled beef with broccoli and cashews is one of my favorite Asian dishes. It never bores and is ready in a short period of time, great for weekdays when you come from work and want to eat something healthy.

Recipe Rating

Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef
  • 1 onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 head broccoli (cut in florets)
  • Salt as needed
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon smoke seasoning
  • 6 to 7 mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • Black pepper as needed
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 inch ginger piece (peeled and finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ cup roasted cashews
  • 2 green chilies (thinly chopped for garnishing)

Instructions

  • 1. Cut the beef into rectangular pieces, of about 2 inches long and 1 inch in thickness.
  • 2. Heat oil in a grill skillet and grill the beef pieces. Season the beef with salt and black pepper and cook for about 10 minutes with occasional stirring. Take out the beef in a dish when done.
  • 3. Now heat 2 tablespoons oil in a pan and add onion, sauté for 2 minutes, then add garlic paste, salt, pepper, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, vinegar, wine, smoke seasoning and sugar and cook for 1 more minute.
  • 4. Now add broccoli and mushrooms and again cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until the veggies are cooked to your desire. Don’t overcook, let the color of broccoli be freshly green and still crisp (I like it this way but if you want fully cooked veggies then give it some extra time but that will ruin its nutrient factor).
  • 5. Now finally add grilled beef chunks and ginger and further cook for 2 minutes.
  • 6. Take out in a serving dish and garnish with thinly chopped green chilies and cashews.
  • 7. (You can have it as it as but the best way to enjoy this dish is to serve it with white rice).

Cheesy Breezy Beef Fillets with Green Bell Pepper

I have never tried any other beef recipe that has superb taste like the one made with this recipe. Don’t compromise taste for few calories as the butter and cheese in this dish gives it a special aroma and softness that nothing else can give. After trying this dish, you won’t regret sacrificing your diet plan for just one meal.

Most of us love to have grilled chicken or beef so this tip is especially for those who grill a lot and really want to improve the grilling quality. Most of us use black pepper in marinade sauces before grilling, this isn’t bad but black pepper has the tendency to burn on the grill and if you are not that careful about the exact time of grilling then that might give you a bitter taste in your steak because of burning of black pepper. So it’s better to use pepper in the end, after finishing the grill

The History of The Hamburger

When it comes to grilling, the humble hamburger is one of the staple foods we toss on our grills, but have you ever spent any time thinking about where this tasty treat actually came from? The history of the hamburger is a long and interesting one and we figured it would be great to take a look at it here.

The Early Beginnings of Hamburgers

When you delve into the history of the hamburger, you will find that as far back as ancient Egypt there were people enjoying ground meat patties in various incarnations. It may not always have been known as a hamburger, but essentially that it what it was. It is believed that Genghis Khan’s armies (1121-1209) would eat ground meat patties made from scraps of mutton or lamb which had been stored under the saddle which helped to tenderize the meat. These patties could be eaten as the men road and would be consumed raw. This could be the first instance of what we now know as a hamburger! This tradition was taken to Russia by Khubilai Khan where Russians refined the dish adding onion and eggs to create what is know as steak tartare.

The history of the hamburger then moves to Germany where steak tartare was adopted and soon took on the name ‘Hamburg Steak’, a name introduced by sailors who purchased the delicacy in the port of Hamburg. The dish was popular both cooked and raw among the poor people as it consisted of the cheapest meat cuts minces and seasoned with spices. Somewhere along the line the cooked patties were served between 2 slices of bread and the hamburg we know and love today began to take shape.

The History of The Hamburger In America

It is not clear who first made the classic American hamburger and bun combination. There are many stories and much of it comes down to whether or not you count the patty served between slices of bread or not.

One of the men who claim to be the father of the hamburger we know and love today is Charlie Nagreen of Wisconsin. In 1885 a 15 year old Charlie was trying to make a living selling meatballs at the county fair. However the meatballs were not a great shape for eating on the move and people were not keen to buy them. In a flash of genius Charlie flattened his meatballs and served them on slices of bread. He return to the fair with his creations every year until 1951 and was known locally as Hamburger Charlie and his home town still holds an annual burger festival.

However, the history of the hamburger is not that cut and dried! Oscar Weber Bilby also claims to have invented the first Hamburger in America in 1891 in Oklahoma.
